VishnuPriya Viswanathan Bio
I was born in Tamil Nadu, a southern state of India and spent all my childhood in Chennai. Coming from a region with rich culture and heritage, the love for all things vernacular has always been an integral part of me. I am presently a student in my third year of architecture school. I have a keen interest in writing, especially about societal issues that fascinate me. My aim is to create a difference in the society for the betterment of the lives of the under privileged and the differently abled. I wish to do this as an architect, writer and an active citizen to create spaces that are sustainable and universally accessible. Reading is my greatest passion. I am interested in expanding my knowledge of not just architecture and building techniques but also of social and political issues in order to achieve my dream of making my city glorious and beautiful. I also harbour a keen interest for travelling and learning new languages and practices. The Berkeley Prize essay competition has helped me become more aware of the living conditions of the underprivileged sections of people all over the world. It has given me the vista to realise how my contribution can affect them and the drive to work more on this field.
